We left Vancouver last Friday and arrived here on Monday without incident.....yet! Before 24 hours had passed, I stepped on an uneven spot of concrete/brick patio, rolled my ankle and fell. We were off to emergency where we learned I had fractured a bone in my left ankle. Fortunately I do not have a separation nor will this need surgery. This is really good news amongst a ton of pain and swelling. This is the first time in my whole life of breaking a bone so I should be thankful for that. Emergency of course referred me to an Orthopedic group who were able to see me today, the day before Thanksgiving. It was a total zoo there with tons of "older" people in with similar situations and it occurred to Steve and I that yes, we are getting older. Additional x-rays were taken and it was confirmed that I indeed had the fracture that I was trying to deny. I had too much swelling to cast, so they put on a temporary cast and will put the real one on in a week. In the meantime I am not to move from my recliner except for bathroom or bedtime and in the 2nd day of this I am bored and in a moderate amount of pain. I am told that recovery and healing will be 4 to 6 weeks and I am to use a walker and a wheelchair..............I feel ancient, especially when he ordered the walker. Bummer!!!
To add insult to injury I developed food poisoning (the worst I've ever had) last night. We hadn't had a chance to go to the supermarket, so Steve got take out for dinner. Not fun to be that sick in a motor home, especially when I couldn't move quickly to the bathroom......I will spare you all the details. So far things have gone wrong, but we have good attitudes and know that there is nowhere to go except up. We missed Thanksgiving dinner today as I spent most of the day in bed. Next blog should be more upbeat. We have had rain on and off for the past two days but the temps remain so comfortable. There are quite a few people here already. We think the cheaper gas is attributing to more people on the road.
